Travel

Ireland is connected by direct flight with many major cities in the North America and Europe. From Asia, Africa and Australia, one may fly here with only one mid-landing depending on your departure point.

Visa Requirements

If you are traveling internationally, a valid passport is normally required. For some countries, your passport will need to be valid for at least six months after your intended return and you may also need a visa. For more information visit US Embassy. People from certain countries may need a valid Irish entry visa before arriving in the State, whether by air, sea or land. Further information about Visa requirements can be found here.

Photocopies of Important Documents

Have photocopies of all important documents (tickets, passport, visas, E111, travel insurance, driving license etc…) and make sure they are kept separate from the originals. If there are two or more people in your party you could exchange photocopies to minimize the chance of losing all documentation. If your passport is lost or stolen you must report it to the Passport Office or your nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate. Or call the 24hr emergency number.

United States Customs and Border Protection

The United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) facility at Terminal 2 in Dublin Airport is a purpose built facility that allows US bound passengers to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections at Dublin prior to departure. Dublin Airport is one of only a handful of airports outside North America that offer the CBP facility. Having cleared USCBP, passengers arriving in the US are treated as domestic arrivals, which allows for a faster processing through their arrival airport in the United States including the checking through of any baggage to the traveler’s final destination. Foreign Currency

Most places accept credit and debit cards, cash is still the best way to pay for small items like taxis, snacks and tips. You can buy currency at any of the airports Bureau de Change Facilities.

Health and medical

If you are in any doubt about travelling with an illness or medical condition you should consult your doctor. If you are on prescribed medication take enough with you for the duration of your trip, as it may not be easy or economical to get a repeat prescription for the same medication while you are overseas.

Illegal food imports

While traveling, you need to be aware of what food items are permitted and prohibited. Products such as meat, dairy, fish, and shellfish as well as certain plants and vegetables are prohibited and if found, will be seized. You may face severe delays, a fine and even prosecution. The Department of Agriculture is aiming to reduce the risk of exotic animal diseases, plant pests and diseases entering the country, which threaten our public health, livestock, agriculture and horticultural industries and the environment.

Airport

Dublin Airport is conveniently located approximately 10 km north of Dublin city centre. It is served by a large number of buses, coaches and taxis all allowing you to get to and from the airport with ease.

Ground Transportation from Dublin Airport

There are several modes of transportation from the airport to the City Centre and surrounding hotels. It is approximately 25 minutes by car.

Bus

Dublin Airport is accessible by over 1,000 buses and coaches daily. From the airport, you can reach many areas in and around Dublin, as well as various towns and cities across Ireland. Taxis

Are available from the forecourts directly outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Passengers should follow Taxi signage to the designated taxi ranks. A taxi dispatcher is available at either taxi rank if you require any further information or assistance.

As a passenger in a taxi you are entitled to:

  • Engage a taxi for journeys up to 30km (Conference hotels are up to approx 15km)
  • Have all fares calculated on the taxi meter
  • A receipt printed by the taximeter printed on payment
  • A clean vehicle and a pleasant journey
