Description
Information technology (IT) resources continue to create value for organizations both within and outside their boundaries. It is well established that the bulk of IT expenditure continue to be towards managing legacy application and in facilitating traditional business roles. However in recent times the role of IT has grown beyond merely supporting process innovation to enabling digital transformation. This new contribution in creating paradigmatic innovation is often attributed to the widespread adoption of new practices involving Big Data, Mobile, Analytics, Cloud Services and Social applications. Coupled with processes and organizational changes, technology has become the prime mover of innovation today.
The transformative power of technology creates opportunities for practice and is an imperative for research. While businesses grapple with how to effectively deploy newer technologies, researchers are faced with an increasing number of open questions around the implications of such changes on organizations and society. Further, the newer environments, industries, business models, processes, and tasks offer nuances to build upon the existing body of knowledge related to IT.
