  • Completed Research

Completed Research papers must describe completed research. Submissions related to the conference theme (“A Tradition of Innovation”), or other relevant topics of interest to AMCIS attendees, will be considered. Completed Research papers must be submitted to a track/minitrack where they will be peer-reviewed using a double blind system. If accepted, Completed Research papers will be presented in a session, which consists of three or four papers. Sessions employ a standard format of presentation by an author and general audience discussion. Each session room is set up with presentation equipment (i.e., projectors and screens). You should plan on bringing your own laptop or tablet and adapter for your output port (HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort, etc.). Full papers must not exceed 10 pages (approx. 5,000 words, including figures, tables, references, and appendices) and must conform to the AMCIS 2017 submission template. Full papers that are accepted will be published in their entirety in the conference proceedings.

Click here for more information on submitting a completed research proposal.

Note: Every author (co-author) is limited to a maximum of three papers in the Completed Research and ERF categories together.  You must use the templates provided on the website for formatting your submissions.

  • Emergent Research Forum (ERF)

Emergent Research Forum (ERF) papers are a research in progress option that was introduced at AMCIS 2015. Submissions related to the conference theme (“A Tradition of Innovation”), or other relevant topics of interest to AMCIS attendees, will be considered. Like completed research, ERF papers will be submitted to a track/minitrack for double blind review. Accepted ERF papers will be presented by the authors in a slam presentation session (limited to 3 minutes) during the program as well as a poster. Both the slam presentation and the poster are required. ERF paper submissions must not exceed 5 pages (approx. 2,500 words, including figures, tables, references, and appendices) and must conform to the AMCIS 2017 submission template. Authors of accepted ERF papers may submit an abstract for the proceedings OR a revised paper.

Note: Every author (co-author) is limited to a maximum of three papers in the Completed Research and ERF categories together.  You must use the templates provided on the website for formatting your submissions.

  • Workshops and Tutorials

In keeping with the AMCIS 2017 theme, “A Tradition of Innovation”, our special focus for this conference is to recruit workshops and tutorials that emphasize “cutting edge” technologies, methods, education programs, and concepts. In addition, we will encourage sessions that support professional development for IS academics, researchers, and practitioners. Both one-day and half-day sessions will be accommodated.

Click here for more information on submitting a workshop and tutorial proposal.

  • Panels

Panels provide an opportunity for a group of researchers to explore a topic or focus of interest in a panel format, typically involving a panel moderator (who poses several questions related to the topic) and three to four expert contributors with alternative views or perspectives on the topic. Depending upon the topic, the experts can be drawn from the academy and/or from industry. Of particular interest are panel submissions that are related to the conference theme, “A Tradition of Innovation”,  although panel proposals on other relevant topics are also welcome.

  • Technology Research, Education, and Opinion (TREO) Talk Sessions

Technology Research, Education, and Opinion (TREO) Talks provide attendees a platform to present their research ideas, education papers, or opinion papers that cover any area of information systems (IS) or information technology (IT) and get feedback from session attendees. The TREO Talk sessions will provide the opportunity to submit a 1-page abstract of a research paper or research idea, an education paper or an idea related to IS education, or an opinion paper on any area of information technology. TREO Talks submissions will be editorially reviewed to ensure that they are IS related and appropriate in nature. Accepted TREO Talks abstracts will be presented at a TREO Talk session. Each TREO Talk author will present their topic, followed by a question and answer and discussion session with the audience. TREO Talk submissions will be in the format of a 1-page abstract and should be submitted via email

  • Professional Development Symposia (PDS)

Professional Development Symposia (PDS) offer the opportunity for creative, multi-way conversations, and have the potential to offer a positive impact on the professional development of participants from different regions, SIGs, chapters, career stages, or demographic backgrounds. The PDS chairs encourage anyone interested in organizing a PDS to submit a proposal, including SIGs, Chapters, and Colleges. Proposals involving cross-SIG dialog or collaborations are encouraged. Proposals can be quite brief, but should provide an outline sufficient for the PDS chair to make a recommendation on its applicability, likelihood of drawing an audience, and suitability. Some indication of likely authors and presenters would be helpful.
