The interaction between human behavior and information systems continues to be a popular and exciting area that attracts scholarly attention. We know that IS may be used to intentionally change human behavior, but can human behavior end up changing the IS in unexpected (negative or positive) ways? Also, to the extent we build IS for global use, their design must take into account that human behavior varies across cultures, personal contexts and levels of socio-economic status.  Although there is a long tradition of investigating the interdependency between human behaviors and IS, new opportunities and challenges keep arising as technologies, social environments, and business and/or interpersonal processes evolve. This track focuses on these opportunities and challenges at the individual, group, organization and societal levels as well as at the intersection of these levels—i.e., within levels and across levels. We welcome submissions that extend or challenge the current beliefs, assumptions, and theories, using all methodologies.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Influence of information systems on general behaviors (e.g., entertainment, shopping and socializing)
  • Influence of information systems on work behaviors (e.g., knowledge sharing, collaboration and learning)
  • Influence of social forces on human behaviors associated with information systems (e.g., institutional pressure and social norms)
  • Cross-cultural analysis of human behaviour and information systems
  • Interplay between patterns of human interaction and the technologies used for interaction
  • Human behavior and the internet (i.e., web site trust, employee self-service behaviors)
  • Mobile technology, and its opportunities and challenges for users
  • The role of human behavior in shaping the design of technology
  • The link between challenges at various levels of socio-economic status and the design and deployment of technology
  • The impact of social networks on individual behavior
