Organizations are constantly trying to draw insights from the exploding volume, variety and velocity of data to make better sense of the data and to improve decision making. In addition to deciphering ways to address known problems, they are focusing on identifying trends that they did not know before – thanks to big data and associated methods and technologies.

We view data-driven business analytics as a foundation for innovation in current business environment. Our analytic methods, tools and techniques must change to align with emerging business need on big data analytics in increasing areas of practice like new product design, marketing, health care, and policy making. We believe that IS scholars should take leadership in this emerging field of research by innovating data analytics techniques and decision support systems. Thus, this track focuses on themes including data analytics, data mining, big data, business intelligence, quantitative analysis, decision analytics, (group) decision support systems and the like. The focus is on data and how IT can support the processing of data in order to foster/improve decision making. IT may support the intelligence phase of a decision process as well as the design and choice phase. In addition to behavioral research, the track invites submissions that offer a normative and an analytic angle. As indicated above, we would like to (re-) activate research in the field of decision support system (DSS) and decision analytics. They often do integrate a management science and/or an operations research perspective.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Contemporary decision support systems for the integration and exploitation of data analytics, data mining, big data, business intelligence, quantitative analysis and decision analytics
  • Contemporary information technology for comprehensive development and deployment of analytical models for decision making, like inductive databases, in-memory databases or parallel hardware architectures and the like
  • New paradigms for data and business analytics
  • Analytical modeling for business intelligence and decision support
  • Platform for data analytics, data mining, big data, business intelligence and decision support system
  • Ethical use of data in emerging big data environment
  • Using data analytics for business innovation
  • Visual analytics, visualization and usability research for business intelligence
  • Data and business analytics in the cloud
  • Emerging technology for real-time analytics
  • Knowledge-driven analytics: application of emerging technologies such as text mining, data mining, rule-based systems, semantic web technologies, or in-memory databases to address specific decision support needs
  • Mobile technologies for decisions analytics and support
  • Social network analysis for decision support
  • Collaborative decision analytics and support
